Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived in June 2004 and has not been updated since. UGC Europe is the successor to the failed UPC. UPC was a major provider of broadband communication and entertainment in Europe and Israel. Its products included analogue and digital cable television, telephony, broadband Internet access and satellite television, offered in 17 countries. The company was majority owned by UnitedGlobalCom which, in turn, is majority owned by Liberty Media. Following liquidity problems and Chapter 11 proceedings, UPC emerged from bankruptcy in September 2003 with reduced debt and a new structure. It was renamed UGC Europe, with UPC Broadband handling the broadband activities, and chello Media providing media and content. Our company analysis was updated in June 2004.
