Synopsis

Swisscom is Switzerland’s principal telecommunications company, offering a complete range of voice and data communication services on fixed-line and mobile networks. It was formed in 1997 from the monopoly provider Swiss Telecom. The company lost its monopoly following market liberalisation in 1998, and became publicly listed with the government as its major shareholder. It has several international investments, but it attempt to expand internationally in late 2005 caused an upheaval with the government. Company analysis updated in April 2006.
