Synopsis

Listed on the Korea, New York and London stock exchanges, SK Telecom (SKT) is controlled by the SK Group. SKT is the largest mobile operator in South Korea, with over 50% of the market. The company provides 2G and 3G mobile services and mobile Internet services. SKT has mobile telephone interests in China, Mongolia, Vietnam and Cambodia. In 2002, SKT launched the world’s first CDMA2000 network with data speeds of 2.4Mb/s. The government’s mobile number portability initiative caused SKT to lose only a thin slice of its market share. The launch of DMB satellite TV services in May 2005 is a major milestone for SK Telecom.
