NEC is a Japanese telecommunications supplier that manufactures and sells communications systems and equipment, computers and industrial electronic systems, electronic devices and consumer electronics products. It has operations throughout the world, including Packard Bell NEC in the USA. Following a steady decline in profitability since the industry downturn, the company has undergone several reorganisations. In 2002 it decided to spin off its semiconductor business.
