Synopsis

This profile was archived in January 2007 and was last updated in August 2005. KT Corporation was listed on the Korea and New York stock exchanges in 1998 and was fully privatised in May 2002. The company owns the national network of local telephone lines and the county’s fixed-line and satellite infrastructure. In 2005, it received a licence to provide VoIP services, as well. It is one of the world’s largest broadband providers with around half the country’s saturated broadband market. KT is expanding into new broadband products including WiFi hotspots (KT is the world’s leading hotspot operator as of early 2005), VDSL, broadband content delivery including TV and VoD, and satellite DMB. It also operates the country’s second largest mobile operation through its subsidiary KTF.

Purchase with Confidence

As you know, I have resigned from the Labor Ministry and have decided not to re-contest the seat of Charlton at the next election – both for personal reasons.

Before leaving Parliament, I particularly wish to record my thanks to you for your generous and constructive participation in the deliberations that generated significant economic policy reforms for the Australian community. Continuous economic transformation is a key challenge that faces all Governments.

The development of sound public policy should always be contestable. Ultimately, good and equitable outcomes are not concessions to any particular interest group, but the careful balancing of interests to create the greatest possible benefit for the nation. You have contributed to that, and I sincerely thank you for it.

Greg Combet, Former Minister for Climate Change, Industry and Innovation
