Synopsis

Great Wall Technology is a manufacturer of computers and computer peripherals, specialising in hard disc drives in the Peoples Republic of China. The company is a major supplier to IBM, Maxtor, Western Digital and Seagate. It also sells its own branded products in China, Asia Pacific and North America. In 2000, faced with declining margins in its core business, the company diversified into the manufacture of network and fibre optic transmission equipment and it embarked on an ambitious project to install broadband cable to three million homes by 2003. To share the investment burden, the company sold 50% of its broadband venture to the national telecommunications carrier CITIC in 2002.
