Archived report: this report was archived September 2005 and has not been updated. State-owned China Telecommunications Corporation and its subsidiaries are part of China Telecom Group. China Telecom Group is China’s fixed-line incumbent and one of the largest fixed-line providers in the world. It operates mainly in 21 provinces in southern China. Its regional operations were progressively acquired by its listed subsidiary, China Telecom Corporation. In June 2004, China Telecom Corp purchased six provincial businesses operating in ten regions from the Group, leaving the parent company with only one regional operation in Tibet.
