Synopsis

A summary is given of Telstra’s efforts over the years to establish a presence overseas. These started with engineering projects performed by its predecessor, OTC, progressed through mainly unsuccessful attempts to establish operations in Poland, Germany, Khazakhstan, Georgia, USA, UK, New Zealand and Hong Kong. In recent years, the company’s offshore activities were mainly focussed around its operation in New Zealand its mobile business in Hong Kong and its international joint venture Reach with Hong Kong based PCCW.
