Analyst: Paul Budde

Synopsis

Telstra is financially one of the best performing incumbent telcos in the world. Partly sheltered by government ownership the company did not go totally berserk in the dot com and telco bubble. However, they were still able to waste billions of dollars worth of bad investments. It is one of the most dominant telcos in the world and as such still enjoying monopolistic rents, resulting in annual profits of around $4 billion p.a. However, revenue growth is flat, a situation that is unlikely to change before 2007.
