Synopsis

It is interesting to observe the Seven Network’s raid of Australian telecoms companies. BuddeComm remains unconvinced and confused as to how it is going to put all this together into a cohesive new play, and we remain sceptical.

Having said that, a disruption like this can generate interesting developments, and from that perspective we like it. Unfortunately neither VoIP operator engin nor wireless broadband operator Unwired, have had a significantly positive impact on the telecoms market, and a continuation of their activities in their present form is not going to contribute much more to the market or the industry.

So for Seven to take them over and give these activities another run, in a different format, won’t do any harm. The action is more aimed at bolstering its position in the broadcast market.
