Synopsis

The company closed its service in April 2001, due to a lack of advertisers that would pay to provide free calls. There are plans for the fixed line service to roll out to cover the rest of Australia. Optecom also plans to roll out a mobile service based on a similar model and combined with SMS/WAP. The service begins with the subscriber hearing a 15-second advertising spot.
