Synopsis

New Skies Networks (NSN) is the Australian subsidiary of global VSAT satellite operator New Skies Satellites (NSS). NSN was formed out of AAPT Sat-Tel, acquired from AAPT in 2000. Using its Australia-wide earth station infrastructure, NSN hauls voice, data, Internet, multimedia, video/TV broadcast and other traffic around the world over NSS geostationary satellites located over the Pacific and Indian Oceans. Two new satellites were launched in September and December 2002 which doubled NSN’s transponder capacity and added new capabilities for broadband Internet and Direct-to-Home TV broadcasting. This positioned NSN to compete effectively with incumbent operators Telstra and Optus.
