Synopsis

Level 3 Communications is engaged in communications, information services and coal mining businesses through ownership of operating subsidiaries and substantial equity positions in public companies. In late 1997, it substantially increased its information services business and expanded the range of services it offers by building an advanced, international, facilities based communications network based on IP technology. The network was built by using company assets and by purchasing and leasing of facilities. In January 2002, Level 3 completed the sale of its Asian operations to Reach Ltd as a result of its decision to concentrate on its core businesses.
