Synopsis

Econet Wireless New Zealand aims to provide New Zealanders with an innovative, affordable and flexible cellular service. It already has 11 fulltime staff in New Zealand and has spent about $25 million so far. It plans to start building a network by early 2002 using the GSM standard — the same technology used by Vodafone NZ. Hautaki holds rights to a $15 million chunk of 3G spectrum on behalf of all Maori in New Zealand.
