Synopsis

In March 2000, Bell Atlantic and GTE Corp merged their operations into a new company called Verizon Communications. The two companies merged in August 1997, with the merged company retaining the name Bell Atlantic. In July 1998, Bell Atlantic and GTE agreed to merge their companies in a share swap. It is expected that the merger will produce considerable cost savings and increases in revenue.
