Synopsis

analogue for MDS, limited digital functionality will be added in 1996, digital for satellite service. Australis ‘own’ subscribers dropped from 122,000 in March to 117,000 in July and 98,000 three months later, crawling back to 110,000 by July 1997. By early 1997, of the 98,000 subscribers left, 6,200 only subscribe to the foreign language service. Australis launched New World, its Chinese news, sport and entertainment service, in Sydney and Melbourne in mid 1994.
