The company owns and operates Australia’s Academic and Research Network, AARNet2, which interconnects and provides high-capacity Internet services to the tertiary education and research sector. Via the Southern Cross Cable Network, it interconnects with advanced research networks in 42 nations. It also interconnects with GrangeNet, a multi-gigabit Australian research network. In December 2002 AARNet was appointed to manage the next generation Australian Research and Education Network, AREN. In December 2003 it signed a 15-year nationwide capacity agreement with Nextgen Networks.
