For up to date information on the Internet in the Philippines and associated statistics, see separate report: HYPERLINK "https://www.budde.com.au/Research/Philippines-Broadband-and-the-Internet-Market"Philippines - Broadband and the Internet Market. With the estimated number of Internet users only involving less than 7% of the population by 2008, Internet penetration is relatively low compared to many of its Asian neighbours. The Internet sector is, however, well positioned for growth, with a deregulated market, strong government support for IT development, and an increasingly Internet savvy population. In fact, in the 2007/08 period and during 2009 we are strating to see a significant upturn in the country’s Internet market, with broadband access expanding rapidly. The stimulation and growth of e-commerce will, of course, depend on increasing the accessibility of Internet, greater PC penetration and the enactment by the government of appropriate legislation. This report looks at the development of the Internet and related e-commerce activities in the Philippines.
