Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived September 2005 and has not been updated. A hot topic in Japan in 2005 is mobile satellite TV broadcasting. Mobile Broadcasting Corporation (MBCO) is so far the only company who had applied for a mobile satellite broadcasting licence in Japan. MBCO’s MBSat satellite began providing its MoBaHo! service in October 2004. In a similar fashion to the country’s cable TV sector, Japan’s satellite TV market underwent a period of consolidation, leaving SKY PerfecTV! as the dominant DTH operator. This report provides an overview of regional satellite operators and the interactive TV market.
