Synopsis

After first getting to know China last year, for this year’s visit, in September 2005 a month later I was invited by the Australian Government to address a media symposium at the Asian College of Journalism in Chennai. This offered me a golden opportunity to become involved in debating the role of telecoms and the media in this rapidly emerging new world power. Coming only a month after my time in China, this trip also allowed me to make some very interesting comparisons. Any investment in these markets requires a detailed understanding of this background and this report addresses those issues.
