Synopsis

Unified Communications (UC) is the integration of different communications media, enabling users to retrieve and send voice, fax, SMS, and e-mail messages from a single interface, whether it is a fixed phone, mobile phone, PC, or Internet-enabled PC. The concept has been around for close too a decade. Various corporate software packages have been developed, but so far UM has failed to become more widespread. New developments in NGN and IP, together with broadband, are going to provide a much better platform for UC.
