Synopsis

Australia has historically maintained a small surplus in computer and information services, exporting more than double the amount of services as equipment. However, most other ICT services are typically in deficit, contributing to an overall ICT trade deficit. The USA and Japan are the main countries that Australia exports its ICT goods and services to, though data here notes other key export markets. This report presents the latest available data on ICT exports, spanning the 1996-2001 period. The 1990s environment is also discussed, while the current key products to export and growth areas are noted. The ACS ICT Trade Update for 2002 was updated in January 2003.
