Synopsis

Dedicated mobile data can be best described as the ‘packet-switching’ service on the terrestrial network. At this stage, dedicated networks are much better suited for wireless applications than the GPRS/GSM network, as this has been configured for voice communications. The drop out rates in GSM are often unacceptable for data applications. However, new technological developments such as those developed by Ballarat based Oztrak, are overcoming these problems. This report introduces the market and the key applications, trends and market players.
