The telecommunications industry got off to an interesting and turbulent start in 2004. The main developments of the first few months are examined in this report – the broadband war between Telstra and the rest of the industry, and the government’s continuing push for privatisation. Telstra also provided some good material for analysis, with a number of announcements regarding proposed and actual acquisitions. Mobile price regulation is discussed, since this can’t be far off. Paul Budde reports on his meeting with Foxtel, and he needs some help with the broadbanding of Bucketty!
