Synopsis

Instead of growing to $5 billion in revenues, the new telco market will contract in 2001 to $3.5 billion. Telecoms equipment market revenue will drop from $6 billion (2000) to $4.5 billion (2001). All main telcos are 80% reliant on voice, a rapidly declining market. Independent data SPs are now taking 60% of the contestable telco market (was 50% in 1999).
