Analyst: Robin Whittle

Synopsis

Historically, government policies, strategies and regulations have been mainly based on the traditional telecommunications and broadcasting services. Many of the current regulations were framed in line with the attitudes and business philosophies that prevailed during the late 1980s and early 1990s. While access, interconnect and number portability are still key issues for the industry, a number of new initiatives, addressing alternative Customer Access Networks (CANs), are now occurring – outside the conventional telco box.
