In November 2006 the Western Australia government pledged $1 billion of telecom spend over 10 years for a proposed broadband network offering 10Mb/s to all homes and businesses in the state. A recent report has found that poor global connectivity off Western Australia has left all of Australia unable to compete with some countries on labour costs, and remote from major markets.
