Synopsis

This report has been archived. Entrepreneurial, pioneering companies such as iiNet and Swiftel have grown into national operations, indicating the significance of developments in the West. In November 2006 the Western Australia government pledged $1 billion of telecom spend over 10 years for a proposed broadband network offering 10Mb/s to all homes and businesses in the state. This report also provides overviews of key players in the region as well as a number of regional council projects. A recent report has found that poor global connectivity off Western Australia has left all of Australia unable to compete with some countries on labour costs, and remote from major markets.
