Synopsis

This report was archived in September 2007 and has not been updated since July 2004. Across the world it has been recognised that government services such as education and healthcare can play a decisive role in the deployment of new telecommunications infrastructure for broadband, particularly in regional areas. Government agencies are among the largest users of telecommunications services, and so they have a great opportunity, as well as a great responsibility, in respect of the development of regional infrastructure. Government IT&T contracts can be used to develop a first-class national nextgen IT&T infrastructure and that infrastructure can be used for the wider benefit of the economy, and of its people.
