Synopsis

Driven by broadband, the industry is surging ahead, with good prospects for the 2005-2008 period. Wireless broadband will have its role to play and, along with VoIP, will create disruption to the traditional telco business. Mobile substitution is also putting pressure on the old models. The business case for 3G is still not up, but the need for more network efficiencies might finally begin to drive this technology further into the market. The growth, however, will be in broadband. This is where the action is happening, led by BSPs and ISPs. True broadband developments with FTTH and VDSL are driven by the utilities.
