Synopsis

Asia’s mobile industry has been one of the largest and fastest-growing markets in the world. By March 2008, we saw the region reach 1.5 billion mobile subscribers (overall regional penetration 40%) and the total subscriber base was growing at a more than healthy annual rate of around 30%. After a period where subscriber growth rates were well in excess of 50% each year, there has been a moderating of growth in recent times, settling to between 25% and 35%. There is still more room for growth. Asia has not only been dynamic in terms of subscriber growth; it has also been a leader in innovation with such products as NTT DoCoMo’s i-mode in Japan and aggressive rollout of 3G technology. This report provides an overview of the Asian mobile market including relevant statistics.
