Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived September 2005 and has not been updated. This report provides an overview of the major mobile operators in South Korea in the competitive South Korean mobile market. The three main cellcos are SK Telecom, KTF (formerly known as KT Freetel) and LG Telecom. The government came down hard on the wireless operators, especially SK Telecom, in mid-2004 and banned the selling of mobile services for approximately a month. By March 2005, SK Telecom held 51.2% of the mobile market, KTF held 32.5% and LG Telecom had the remaining 16.3%.
