Jordan’s government has focussed on the use of ICT in a range of sectors, aimed at transforming the relatively small economy through the use of digital services. This policy has helped the country rise in the league tables for digital connectivity and internet readiness, and it has also attracted investment from foreign companies. The country is also aiming to capitalise on its geographic location and political stability in the region to set itself up as a digital gateway between Asia and Europe. To this end it has expanded data centre capacity and international internet connectivity, while promoting ICT skills across its tertiary education sector.
These developments have been supported by the highly developed mobile sector, led by three major regional players which have near-comprehensive LTE network coverage and which launched 5G services in late 2023. Orange Jordan has also focussed on building up its FttP infrastructure.
