Synopsis

VSAT services have become an intrinsic part of the telecommunications landscape in India. There are more than 30,000 VSATs in the country, the number having more than doubled in the last two years. The VSAT industry received a boost in 1998 when the government gave it infrastructure status. The opening up of the Ku-band for VSAT use in 1999 was also a major step forward for the sector. This report looks at the VSAT phenomenon in India and provides an insight into some of the major VSAT operators.
