Synopsis

Archived report: this report was archived September 2005 and has not been updated. By mid-2005, about 80% of all China’s mobile phone subscribers used wireless value-added services. China’s embrace of SMS makes it the world’s top user of this technology. Due to the shear size of the country, China is likely to become the global leader in the use of several mobile services. This report comments on mobile voice services, including prepaid cards, satellite mobile services and roaming services. Additionally, this report looks at mobile data services in China such as SMS, MMS, WAP, GPRS, PTT, EDGE, Mobitex and data services based on CDMA2000 1x. Mobile applications such as GPS, m-commerce and mobile gaming are also discussed.
