In preparation for the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, China is busy building what will be the world’s largest network capacity for fixed-line phones. The Chinese voice market is enormous; China has the largest number of fixed-line subscribers and VoIP users in the world. By March 2005, there were an astounding 319.68 million fixed-line subscribers in China. This report looks at the fixed-line market in China, with particular attention paid to IP telephony services. The report also examines the Chinese public data market. Technologies discussed in this report include ISDN, ATM, DWDM and VSAT networks among others.
