In 2017 the cloud computing scene is maturing and as enterprise, consumer and government confidence grows in utilizing cloud services. We will continue to see increasing examples of innovation surrounding cloud applications. Combining cloud technology with emerging block chain solutions, for example, may be one of the future directions for this sector.
For the past few years, cloud computing has been one of the fastest growing areas for the IT sector. While around 90% of larger enterprises in the developed markets have embraced, the benefits provided by cloud platforms; most small and medium-sized businesses still need to start on the road to cloud computing.
The leading cloud technology vendors are now also looking towards new markets and applications to apply their technology. Boosting government uptake of cloud solutions, the emerging markets (particularly China) and mobile cloud computing are all key areas of interest to the major players.
Cloud security and privacy are still issues which require scrutiny and there are growing concerns about data “ownership”.
This BuddeComm Intelligence report explores some of the key issues and trends surrounding cloud computing. It provides key global statistics and recent developments.
In 2017 Amazon AWS is still the leading cloud services player globally but it has growing competition. Safety and security concerns are leading towards companies taking a “multi-cloud” approach and using two or more cloud solutions in order to minimise risk if one of the services becomes compromised in any way; China offers a significant opportunity for future cloud growth with the market expanding by around 30% a year; Mobile cloud computing requires the development of more sophisticated applications; Cloud technology combined with the emerging block chain solutions may be a future direction.
