Synopsis

IEEE 802.11b, 802.11a and 802.11g are widely used for broadband Wireless LAN and point-to-point links. We discuss their modulation schemes and microwave propagation, both of which determine their performance. Security, other aspects of 802.11 and the comparable technologies HiperLAN and HiSWANa are also discussed, together with Bluetooth, IEEE 802.15 and the new Ultra-Wideband (UWB) technologies.
