Synopsis

Despite the recent rapid growth in SMS, it is forecast that this will not continue in its present form because of its limited client base and range of applications. Most commentators have predicted that advanced forms of messaging will take over from SMS, especially MMS (discussed in another report). This report discusses some of these messaging applications, including iMode, SMS Bill reminder and Payment Service and permission-based SMS. It also discusses the dual slot technologies that will be necessary to develop these applications.
