The objective of Intelligent Vehicle/Highway System (IVHS) is to provide the traveller with better information about the system being used, its status, breakdowns, traffic problems, etc. It is intended to improve miles travelled, fuel consumed, pollution and safety. The favoured mode of IVHS appears to be voice communication or data communication through radio frequencies from a control centre, or vehicle location data can be sent to the control centre.
