Automatic Data Capture (ADC) is a collective term for a group of technologies that can include Barcoding, Magnetic Stripe, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID), Optical and Magnetic Ink Character Recognition (OCR, MICR), Smartcards and Vision and Voice Recognition Systems. They are an efficient form of information capture for the management of information - and also information for management. While RFID has existed for more than a decade, it is only now becoming a popular technology due to emerging awareness of its many industry applications. This report gives a description of each of these technologies, with a primary focus on RFID and includes RFID statistics and forecasts.
