Archived report. This report was archived in 2011 and has not been updated. It has become clear that the structure of the telecoms industry in the future will be significantly different from the vertically-integrated industry that has been in existence for the last hundred years. With telecoms expanding beyond voice into data-based applications, based on Internet technologies such as IP, the market is rapidly opening itself up to a range of new services. These changes will create a boom in new business activities based on a more economic utilisation of the infrastructure. The business opportunities beyond the structural changes are enormous, especially in the field of value-added infrastructure such as data centres.
