Archived report. The BRIC countries were one of the first set of emerging markets grouped together in order to examine the potential of these markets for future opportunities. Today there are around 50 countries worldwide identified by various organisations as Emerging Markets which means they have been highlighted as countries undergoing industrialisation and rapid growth. In this report, BuddeComm highlights the BRIC countries (Brazil, Russia, India and China) and examines the important mobile communications environment in terms of key statistics, developments and the regulatory environment. Please note: BuddeComm offers a broad range of unique reports on telecoms in the emerging and developed markets beyond those included in this report.
Brazil is home to more than one third of all mobile users in Latin America and the Caribbean; Russia has a number of mobile network operators offering services although the market is dominated by three major operators (MTS, VimpelCom and MegaFon), which have expanded nationally through acquisitions of smaller regional service providers; From a humble start, growth in India’s mobile sector rapidly picked up pace and developed a sustained momentum, aided by higher subscriber volumes, lower tariffs and falling handset prices; China continues to extend its lead as the single largest mobile market in the world.
