Electronic Directories (Research discontinued in 2002)

Synopsis

Users have access to an ever-increasing number of advanced or enhanced communication services such as mobile telephone, intelligent (network) services or broadband communication services. In view of this explosion of communications, it might appear strange that the evolution of directory services is so much slower. This report looks at some electronic directory services that have emerged, including the X.500 and LDAP services.
