Synopsis

The ISP market in the US is dominated by AOL, which holds more than a quarter of the market, with the other 75% split between approximately 7,000 other ISPs. However, many of the larger players are seeing their subscriber numbers stagnate and even begin to shrink as most of the growth comes from the broadband segment – with newer operators beginning to make an impression. Although dial-up services still dominate the sector, the move to broadband cable and DSL services has already begun to shake up the access market.
