Synopsis

The telecommunications market in Canada in 2003 and 2004 has been experiencing a slowdown in revenue growth as competition continues to drive prices down although the user is seen to be benefiting from this situation. Much of the growth in revenue is in the mobile and broadband segments – and while competition continues to drive down prices, the sheer volume of new subscribers is helping to grow the revenue for the operators. In many respects the Canadians have taken the best of both European and US models for telecommunications competition and applied the necessary regulations where required. The Canadian telecoms market is in a healthy state and as the market opportunities shift we can expect continued consolidation to acquire both customers and solutions.
