Investment in mobile security spending is expected to increase as the popularity of smart phone use for e-transactions grows. Mobile security attacks are also expected to increase with the amount of Android malware in the marketplace already growing. Data loss prevention has also become a key growth area.

A study by Computerworld found that in 2015, enterprises would be increasing their IT budgets with the key priority area being security; followed by cloud computing, business analytics, application development and mobile technologies.

A forecast by Canalys foresees an average investment growth of around 44% a year in mobile security spending. In 2011 around $760 million was spent worldwide on mobile security and by 2015 this was expected to reach around $3 billion. Other analysts such as IDC and Infonetics Research predict spending will be more in the ballpark of around $1.9 billion in 2015.
