Analyst: Paul Budde

Synopsis

The US has led the way in the adoption of Wireless LAN services – both public and private. After the initial adoption by business, the consumer segment has begun to adopt the technology. Despite predictions of huge growth, the lack of even basic security will continue to hold back the market for private WiFi implementations, however this will not affect the opportunities for the public providers, who are likely to be acquisition targets when the telecommunications picks up again. The number of public WiFi providers is increasing at a time when prices are dropping – expect further bankruptcies and disappointed investors.
