Synopsis

Archive report: this report was archived in September 2005 and has not been updated. For current information on USA telecommunications infrastructure, see reports USA - Broadband Market - Broadband over Power Line (BPL), USA - Broadband Market - Cable modem & DSL - Analysis, Statistics & Forecasts, USA - Broadband Market - Fibre to the Home (FttH) Overview & Forecasts, and USA - Broadband Market - Wireless Broadband. In 2004, the build out of new and the refurbishment of existing telecommunications infrastructure virtually came to a halt in the USA as many of the telecommunications carriers battled for survival, burdened by massive debts. The focus was on making current networks profitable, and in many cases this was simply not possible due to massive reductions in prices. The telecommunications infrastructure market was expected to rebound after mid-2005 after the market adjusted to new conditions.
