Synopsis

Canada has an advanced, sophisticated national communications infrastructure supporting one of the world’s highest cable penetration rates, and one of the highest cable television take-up rates. A modern economy with significant remote and rural populations, Canada also has a large market for DTH satellite television. Satellite broadcasters have begun exploring urban communities as potential markets in which to compete with existing cable companies. Satellite and cable companies offer digital TV services, and the market for interactive TV services appears to have started strongly. Digital Terrestrial Television (DTT) has yet to make an impact, due to questions surrounding cost and viability.
