Synopsis

Canada has an advanced, sophisticated national communications infrastructure supporting one of the world’s highest cable penetration rates, and one of the highest cable television take-up rates. A few major companies dominate the broadcasting market – traditionally these players have been cable operators, but in 2003 and 2004 the DTH satellite providers have begun to take market share. Interactive TV services providers have also been making an impact on this growing market. Video-on-demand is one of the real growth markets for iTV providers and this market will become an important source of revenue for many of the major operators by 2006.
